SPOKANE, wash., December 15, 2010/PRNewswire / - have you have you ever wondered what to do with old clothes and outdoor equipment? Beginning Monday, December 13, Mountain equipment started collecting used textiles in his shop in 2002 North Division of Spokane. For a continuous commitment to sustainability, Mountain Gear is to help customers better manage their waste streams to reduce the environmental impact of their activities.
Mountain gear accepts a variety of items, including the shoes, jackets, trousers, shirts, socks, tents, harness, bags for dos and other articles based on the canvas. Collected items will be sent to a textile recycling facility. Usable products will reuse scrap markets; unusable items will be recycled into new materials and fibre. To extend the product, Mountain provides information on the repair services and connects customers with local repair options.
As awareness of sustainability and environmental challenges grow, consumers and businesses are looking for new ways to reduce their impact. Textile waste currently 5% of household solid waste stream 12.4 million tonnes per year (EPA). Textile recycling performance in 93 and 95% collected items are diverted from landfills (Whitehouse and Schapiro, Retex Northwest). Currently, only 10% of the textiles are reused or recycled; Mountain gear hopes to raise rates in the Spokane region.
